A SoCal fugitive who fled to Mexico was arrested for a shooting that left one man dead and another hospitalized in Riverside County.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Adolfo Lopez Jr., 50, of Indio.

On June 28, Thermal Station deputies responded to an assault with a deadly weapon on the 98000 block of Surfside Avenue in a rural community known as North Shore just after midnight.

Two male victims were found with gunshot wounds at the scene. One man, Alberto Padron, 44, of Mecca, was pronounced dead. The second victim, identified only as a 43-year-old man, was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

The shooter fled the scene before deputies arrived. Investigators later identified Lopez Jr. as the primary suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest.

Investigators said Lopez Jr. had fled the country to Mexico. On July 2, he was located and arrested by Mexican authorities in Mexicali, Baja California.

He was turned over to the Riverside County Gang Impact Team at the San Ysidro Port of Entry and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for murder.

No further details, including a motive behind the deadly shooting, were released.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Investigator Cook at 951-955–2777 or Investigator Stuhrmann at 760-863–8990.
